Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic treatment, is a restorative procedure designed to treat infection or damage inside a tooth. It involves removing the infected pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the root canals, and sealing the space to prevent further issues.
Contrary to common myths, root canals are not painful—especially when performed by experienced dental professionals using modern tools and anesthetics. In fact, a root canal is often the best way to relieve dental pain and save your natural tooth.
At Cornerstone Dental Arts, we perform root canal therapy on:
Anterior teeth (front teeth): These typically have a single, straight canal and are more straightforward to treat.
Premolars: Located between the canines and molars, premolars may have one or two canals.
Molars: These back teeth often have multiple roots and complex canal systems, requiring greater precision.
Our team has the technology and expertise to treat all types of teeth efficiently and comfortably.
Persistent tooth pain
Sensitivity to hot or cold that lingers
Swollen gums near a tooth
Discoloration of the tooth
Deep decay or trauma to the tooth
A pimple-like bump on the gums (abscess)
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t delay. The sooner you seek care, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
Diagnosis and Imaging – We’ll examine the tooth and take digital X-rays to assess the extent of the infection.
Local Anesthesia – Your comfort is a top priority. We fully numb the area before treatment begins.
Pulp Removal – The infected or inflamed pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned.
Sealing and Filling – The canals are disinfected and sealed with a biocompatible material. A temporary or permanent filling is placed.
Restoration – In most cases, a crown is recommended afterward to restore strength and function—especially for premolars and molars.
Most root canal procedures can be completed in one or two visits.
Q: Is a root canal painful?
A: Not anymore! With modern techniques and anesthesia, most patients feel little to no discomfort—often less than what you’d experience with a filling.
Q: How long does a root canal last?
A: With proper care, a tooth treated with a root canal and restored with a crown can last a lifetime.
Q: Will I need a crown afterward?
A: Usually, yes—especially for molars and premolars, which endure more pressure during chewing. Anterior teeth may not always require a crown.
Q: Is it better to just extract the tooth?
A: Keeping your natural tooth is almost always the best option. Root canal therapy helps preserve your bite, prevent shifting, and avoid more costly restorations like implants or bridges.
Q: How much downtime is there?
A: Most patients return to normal activities the next day. Mild tenderness is normal but manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers.
